Getting Doctors to Listen to Women

Lots to think about in this story, but pay attention also to this theme:  Doctors don't take women seriously.  HERE.

  1. This doesn’t really surprise me. I remember seeing an article last year about this woman that went to the ER in extreme pain. The attending physician didn’t even examine her, just said she had kidney issues or something. After about 20 hours of pain and her husband hounding the doctors, she was finally examined. Turns out her ovaries was twisted or knotted and she was beginning to turn septic. She ended up getting surgery and recovering, but it took 20 hours to convince the ER that her pain was legitimate. Women in general are gaslighted about their pain, and frankly it’s disturbing.

  2. Women tend to be considered over emotional or over reactive. This stigma prevents women from being taken seriously and this is a major problem. Also, it is believed that sex is supposed to hurt a little for women, but in a "good way." If a man experiences pain during sex it is considered really bad, but pain for women is considered normal or acceptable. I believe that that notion itself is detrimental to the health of women.
