It's a really scary thought to go into surgery under the pretense of a different operation and come out without a kidney. Seems like a particularly gross violation of someone else's body, taking away something that not only belongs to them, but is them. We place our trust in surgeons and anesthesiologists to let them open up our bodies when we are at our most vulnerable, completely unconscious. -Elizabeth Stapper
